Design

The L200 is available in three body styles ( single, club and double-cab) and is based on the Dakar Rally inspired rally raid Shogun/Pajero Evolution, which has won the Dakar Rally no less than 12 times. It's certainly got plenty of road presence thanks to XXL dimensions and distinctive styling. The curvaceous cab looks far from utilitarian - while the range topping "Animal" and "Warrior" versions come with chunky bodykits and plenty of chrome jewellery. The Mitsubishi's interior is finished to a higher standard than most of its pick-up rivals, featuring a well-designed dashboard and classy-looking instruments. Options include luxuries like leather upholstery and climate control. Another neat touch is the optional electrically descending rear screen.On-road the L200 drives surprisingly well, cruising comfortably at speed and with suspension that's more than up to dealing with urban potholes and speedbumps.

Safety

The L200 was fitted with Mitsubishi’s own version of Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), although they call it M-ASTC (Mitsubishi Active Stability and Traction Control), which combines the sensors used for the ABS system with measurements of the vehicle’s steering angle, G-force and yaw rates to assess the available grip. If the sensors detect the onset of under or oversteer, the M-ASTC system will automatically apply the brakes and manage the supply of torque to individual wheels to help the driver retain control. M-ASTC can be deactivated by means of a dashboard switch for off-road driving. The stiffer, stronger ladder-frame chassis of the new L200 offers excellent crash protection and incorporates a hydro-formed box section and impact-absorbing beads. While these crumple zones absorb the energy of an impact, other, reinforced structures, such as the side impact bars, direct impact energy away from the occupants. All L200s come with driver and front passenger airbags. Stability control is standard on Warrior-trimmed models and above, and they also get a more sophisticated four-wheel drive system.
